Nothing says Scotland like a set of bagpipes. The sound is sheer adrenaline for your ears, somewhere between a violin and a power saw, designed to carry on the wind from village to croft and mountain to glen. You probably wouldn't want one in the house, but to see one played by a lone, kilted Highlander high on the Edinburgh battlements at sunset is an evocative poem that conjures up all the terrible power and pity of Scottish military history. But then bring them together in a massed squadron, with the storm of a hundred pipes and drums, and the experience is nothing less than electrifying. With lights, marching bands, daredevil displays of skill and military showmanship featuring hundreds of performers gathered from all corners of the UK and across the world, the Edinburgh Tattoo sweeps you irresistibly into its crests and swells. You'll clap, you'll laugh, you'll gasp – you'll love it.

You'll get to spend some time in Scotland's capital too. Considering that it has over 4,500 listed buildings and that its Old and New Towns are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Edinburgh has a surprisingly cosmopolitan and European character, with pedestrianised areas, street cafés and performers, a vibrant theatre and literary culture and first–rate restaurants and up–market pubs and wine bars.

Join us for this great–value Omega weekend and a chance to explore the sights, climb an extinct volcano, browse the galleries and museums, and see a live Tattoo!

Friday  We travel by comfortable coach from your local area direct to your hotel via a lunchtime stop where you can get a bite to eat and stretch your legs. On arrival, there will be plenty of time to relax before dinner and your first night's stay.

Saturday  After a fine Scottish breakfast, we will take you to Edinburgh where you will have a full day to see the sights, do some shopping and find a nice place for dinner before making your way to the castle for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at 7.30pm. Afterwards, we will take you back to your hotel.

The venue for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, is at about 135 metres above sea–level and you will be required to walk up to the Castle from the coach setting down points nearby. Access to the site may present difficulties for the elderly or those with limited mobility or heart/respiratory problems. The approach to the Esplanade, within the Castle precincts, is a walk of about 80 metres on a steep incline. In addition there is another 60 metres followed by a dozen or so steps to reach the front rows of the stands. Seating in the arena is tiered and will involve further steps to climb. The Tattoo is an outdoor event, so we advise you to be prepared if the weather is bad. The organisers reserve the right to cancel the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo without any refund of any monies paid, due to inclement weather, although no performance has been cancelled since the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo began in 1950.

Sunday  After a full Scottish breakfast, we head for home via a stop in Gretna with time for lunch. The coach will set off on the final leg home in the mid to late afternoon.

Here are some example hotels or similar ones that we use for this break, actual availability may change with the travel date you choose.

Some hotels have an additional supplement per person, as shown below. Supplements are stated for the break (not per night)
